Since 2016, DBM has continued to grow as an investor and developer of commercial properties and residential land.
In 2016, Jim Kara, of Turkish origin but based in Los Angeles, visits Tulum for the first time. This is where he meets Marco Segura, who would become his partner in this challenge. Jim’s idea was to invest in Mexico, but that was when the possibility of developing Real Estate began to be considered. From the first moment, Jim fell in love with Tulum, for its culture, its essence, its nature, and mainly for being a cosmopolitan city.
In 2018, he took force with the plan to develop an exclusive project in this city, and the company was established under the name DBM Development.
Jim and Marco contacted Studio Arquitectos to begin developing the concept for the first DBM Development project. The idea was to create an apartment building by fusing materials from the region with luxury materials imported from elsewhere.
The name Zambo comes from the mestizo spirit since, in New Spain, the zambos were those descendants of the miscegenation between an Indian person and a black person. The project will seek to reflect the honesty and simplicity of Yucatecan and African architecture, with its warm tones, its natural textures, and its relationship between the interior and the exterior.
In May 2019, construction begins on what would be the developer’s first successful project. Along with construction, the first customers began to appear and after two months the first unit was sold.
In August 2020, the work was completed and the owners of the 12 Zambo apartments were handed over. Yes, in a little over a year the entire project was sold, built, and delivered.
With a little more experience and with great success under his arm, he began to devise the second stage of Zambo, which was called Mestiza. Continuing with the same concept of fusion of cultures and materials. He contacted Studio Arquitectos again to think about a project now bigger and with some improvements to further refine the product, which led to a design process a little later.
Ultimately, Mestiza will be a 26-unit development located just steps from Zambo, also within Lúum Zama.
After making several modifications to the design of Mestiza, in June 2021 construction began with the first unit sold.
